Cancer Surveillance

This is one of the most important practical points in IBD-PSC, along with keeping up with your liver team's cancer checks.

Annual colonoscopy from PSC diagnosis

IBD-PSC carries a substantially higher colorectal-cancer risk than IBD without PSC. Guidelines recommend yearly surveillance colonoscopy beginning at the time of PSC diagnosis, earlier and more often than in IBD alone. Keeping up with these scopes is one of the most protective things you can do.

Colorectal cancer

Higher risk and earlier onset, so annual surveillance with chromoendoscopy or high-definition colonoscopy and targeted biopsies.

Bile-duct cancer

PSC also raises the risk of cholangiocarcinoma. Your liver team may monitor this with imaging and blood tests.
